Friday night I fell down our basement stairs and smashed into the cinder-block wall. The Queen of Hearts has nothin' on me. But don't panic, I had a CT scan and all is well. I just have a lot of bruises and one bloody-big head!

Noah and Adam have been working on "Frosty" for several days now-packing the snow, watering it so it would hold, etc. They finished building him today and topped him off with a proper hat that Noah picked out from the Kara Chocolates store. It was filled with yummy peanut butter snowman and chocolate marshmallow oreo cookies. We finished the cookies just in time for "Frosty" to be finished-ready and waiting to come to life.

For Labor Day weekend I went to visit the Boren's of Schenectady, NY. We had a great time at the park. We played in the sand, played tennis, soccer, rollerbladed, and adorned ourselves with clover. You have to look closely but Glenn and Samantha are both sporting clovers tucked behind their ears. Boy, do I miss them.

Emma started working at Massage Envy again so in the afternoons I get to play with Jackson. He has a hard time relaxing to take a nap so Murray discovered "the birdcage effect". If you swaddle him, and put a cover over his eyes he can fall asleep. Unfortunately, it sometimes works too well. Jackson's mom said I'm not allowed to let him sleep more than two hours at a time or he thinks it's nighttime and doesn't sleep when she gets home. OOPS!

Becci Stuver Swinton, our long time friend and Noah's former tutor, came visiting from California today. She flew out to surprise her sister Laura, also a long time friend, tutor, and Noah's Kindergarten teacher. Laura has been fighting cancer for more than a year. I loose track of time it could easily be almost two years. Laura was just released from the hospital where she had been for four weeks. She has had two rounds of chemo/radiation but the cancer is resistant to treatment so surgery was next. This is very sad news but we are very blessed to know the Stuvers and to have Becci come and see us.

Today I took my 8-9 year old activity day girls to day camp at the Jeremiah Johnson Cub Scout Day Camp. They had a space theme where we shot rockets, and learned about astronauts. It was fun but I'm glad we're done. Little girls can sure crank up the decibels.

As you can see Noah is all smiles just like his counselors at Camp K. Noah is holding his camp award-the "sharkbait-ooh ha ha" award because apparently that is what he said most this week. On the way home from camp we stopped at the BSA office and pick up a new uniform for Noah so he will be ready for another week of camping Monday. Lucky guy!

Look at that happy face. Noah & I got back from California late Sunday night and he left for Camp K bright and early Monday morning. Camp Kostopulos is a residential Summer camp for children with disabilities. I will be picking him up tomorrow then Monday he goes to Camp Mapledell BSA Camp. Then he has a week off and the fourth week this month he goes to Lake Powell with the Venture Scouts. Nice Summer, huh?

This is not what you want to see in the middle of the Nevada desert. Noah and I traveled to Sacramento, CA for the Alexander Reunion. It was a quick trip and a fun trip. When the light came on Noah & I made it to Sparks, NV rounding up a Jiffy Lube to check the fliud levels. Jiffy Lube had just changed the oil before we left. Well all the oil, etc. was good. We stopped by a garage to do a diagnostic but bless the mechanics heart. He asked where we were coming from, etc. and said it would probably go off when we got back to Utah. Sure enough it did. It was nice of the mechanic not to want to do the tests and save me the money.

Murray Update

Murray does not have a bleeding ulcer. He has diverticulitis. He only lost 1 pint of blood. But as he says, "It looks like a lot when it's all over the floor." He is taking two antibiotics. Cipro and Metro......something. He has to give up all alcohol including vanilla extract mixed in anything not baked, like whipped cream. Apparently, it reacts poorly to the Metro...blah, blah, blah and will make him violently ill. He has until Thursday to feel better or he gets "his cat scanned."

On the way home from Cascade Springs we stopped by one of the sites for the Provo River Restoration Project. Years ago the Middle Provo River had been "canalized" which has caused problems with some of the flora and fauna of the area. Over the past few years land has been purchased allowing the river to return to it natural coarse.

Tonight we went for a drive on the Alpine Loop up to Cascade Springs. We started through Sundance and came home on an unpaved road near Heber right by Soldier Hollow Olympic Park. It was nice to get out and about. We even saw a 2 point buck coming for water.

Poor Murray spent the his Fathers' Day in bed. At this point it looks
like Murray is suffering from a bleeding ulcer. I don't think its
just anxiety. I think its all the NSAIDS he takes for his arthritis.

Jackson arrived this morning at 2:59 AM MDT. He is 6#12oz. I have no
idea how long he is but I got to help with the delivery. It was
really wonderful. Emma did a great job. She is soooooooo happy to
have him out. She was in labor for 32 hours. Thank goodness for
epidurals. She was so exhausted I don't think she would have survived
in one piece without it. It was a wonderful event. Everyone is happy
and healthy. Jackson is a little bruised because he was facing right
so he could see me. Dr. Glenn suggested that I get on the floor to
see if Jackson would look down. LOL It's a good day.

Noah attended a BSA Court of Honor last night where he received two more merit badges-rowing and small boat sailing. He was awarded bronze, gold, and silver palms each representing 5 merit badges past the 21 required for the rank of Eagle Scout making Noah's total 36. His Scoutmaster and troop of boys are surely the best in the world. Many thanks to Bro. Darrin Mellor and the scouts of troop 1333.

Noah had his first date on Saturday. He went to the Homecoming Dance for Mountain View High School. Four students from the Life Skills Class went with Bruin Buds (a club that serves students with disabilities) first to dinner at our house (you know Murray loves to entertain although this one was actually my idea) and then to the dance at the Provo Towne Centre. Murray made his famous savory chicken schnitzel with noodles and I made a Fall salad with pears and walnuts. Murray liked the salad so well we are having it for dinner again tonight. Back to Noah--Noah's date is Corinne Bauer she is one of his peer tutors. The other couple in the photo is Ryan Painter (Noah's long time friend) and his date Brittney. We had a great time and the students did too! Kudos to Ms. Parker, Noah's teacher, for arranging this wonderful evening for the students. They all "had a blast"!

Noah started his junior year at Mountain View HS on the 23th of Aug. This year he has two bus drivers. One for "A" days when he goes to ATECH (job skills training where he works at the Bishops' Storehouse bagging potatoes-at least that's what I think he's telling me.) They also did tomatoes one day.) His bus for "B" days takes him right to the HS. Noah had to give up his painting class because he wasn't returning from ATECH in time. Instead he is taking a weight training class. I think he will enjoy it. We'll see. I have done some weight training exercises with Noah at home using dumbells and he seems to like it. Noah has been reading to me every morning while we wait for the bus. It is a lot of fun and he likes the routine. I have a hard time getting him to read to me in the afternoon. Maybe that's because he needs some "down time" after school. We have lost most of his long time tutors to illness, marriage, and school so Noah is now working mainly with Aubrey Jones, the teachers aide at school and a friend from our ward. Aubrey worked with Noah in the summer taking him to the movies once a week. Now she works with Noah Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. It is great to have her supporting his IEP goals. This week they are working on budgeting. Noah chose a recipe he wants to make (Sand Cups), made a shopping list, then they will make a budget for the required items, shop, check the budget, make the recipe, and enjoy eating. They do this at school, too, but it is really fun to use the skills at home. PS I've been trying to blog this since Aug 23rd but for some reason it wouldn't post through email like the others. Anyway, here's the scoop on Noah's school at last.

Poor Noah! We have been at Timpanogos Hospital this morning. I got a call from school saying that Noah had a seizure in PE class. They were running laps and Noah decided to do one more than usual but towards the end he started walking, then staggering, then moved to the grass and sat down hard. He rolled on to his side and began seizing. The PE teacher didn't realize Noah had a seizure disorder so she didn't know at first what was happening. Luckily, the paramedics work out at the same track at the same time so they were there to help. Then checked his vital signs and were not too pleased so they started an IV and oxygen. Meanwhile, I was on my way to pick Noah up and take him home when and got another call saying they decided to take him to the hospital. I called Murray to let him know what was going on and we all met at the emergency room. They checked Noah out, took a carbamazepine level (it was 12.3, higher than a therapeutic level but not high enough to be a concern). Everything checked out and we took the very sleepy Noah home where he is watching Mulan through closed eyelids.

Venola's Visit

Venola came to visit us for a few days. I wasn't intelligent enough to take a picture so you'll just have to imagine. She arrived on Monday night and she had fun reading with Noah. Tuesday we mostly just caught up chatting while I knitted. Murray and his mom went for a walk taking Noah over to the church for YM (however, YM had been moved to Wed. but we didn't know). Venola is doing amazingly well considering she just had her knee replacement in May. Of course, she would like it to get better faster, as we all would in her situation, but she has a good attitude about it and is making steady progress. She hardly used her walker at all, but it is good to have ready to make sure she doesn't fall. Wednesday, Murray came home from his University Conference Meetings to take his mom to lunch. I was proud of Murray for declining an assignment from the dean so he could spend this time with Venola. I think it meant a lot to her. She is lots of fun to have around. Hopefully, she will come again soon.

Jon & Mindy Scott are back in town for school at BYU. They spent the Summer in Fallon, NV with Mindy's parents where Jon had an internship with the government. He devloped a plan that they will implement for animal control. Apparently people have interesting pets there, including lions and tigers. Jon & Mindy came over for dinner last Sunday and we had a great time eating and enjoying each others company. I'm looking forward to seeing more of them this year. Last year was a blur and unfortunately we didn't see as much of them or Ryan and Kellie and now Ryan and Kellie have moved to Spokane and I've missed my opportunity with them. Hopefully I can be a better Aunt Susie to Jon and Mindy.

It is a good thing that Noah doesn't turn 16 everyday. I don't think we would live much longer. My sister, Sandy, and her children went with us to Lagoon Amusement Park to celebrate. They are visiting from Citrus Heights, CA to bring her son Roger to the MTC. Elder Astle enters the MTC on Wed. the 23rd to serve in the Pittsburgh, PA

Mission. So we went to Lagoon at 11:30am-6:00pm. We went on a LOT of rides. Noah's favorite is the Spider, a roller coaster where the cars spin. It is pretty fun. Noah also got a present he loves-a portable DVD player. He watched Mary Poppins to and from the park. We stopped at Wal-mart on the way home and grabbed a cake. When we finally got home the Eldards came over and brought Noah some Mickey Mouse ice cream pops and Fat Boy strawberry cheesecake ice cream bars. The Eldards sure spoil us! We had a great time but like I said at the beginning it's a good thing we don't play like this everyday!

We had a wonderful trip to Sacramento. We arrived on July 30th in Emma's new Elantra. She wanted to show Grandpa her new car and she drove the whole way. Emma's friend, roommate, and traveling companion, Melissa Keil, came with us. This picture is of Emma and Melissa in the pool. That is where they lived. It is a good thing too. The first swim of the vacation was marred by an emergency. The girls took Noah swimming and I was planning to shower when Melissa came in and said Emma needed me. Noah had a seizure and was just swimming in a tight circle. Emma grabbed him and the three of us got his #160 of dead weight out of the pool. As he was coming out of the seizure he took Emma's hand and said, "thank you." She was very touched. Noah slept the rest of the day, which is par for the course. He is trying a new medication. Hopefully it will better control his seizures. Three cheers for those beautiful, cool-headed bathing beauties.

We went to an Owlz game with John and Marj for the 24th of July. They are so great to treat us to these games. Noah ended up with lots of souvenirs. American flags were given to all the spectators, and John bought Noah his own official Owlz baseball to go with the Owlz souvenir bat he gave Noah last year along with lots of treats and snacks. But the craziest souvenir of all was a total surprise. While the staff were throwing balls to the crowd one came our way. John jumped up to try to grab one for Noah (who was seated directly in front of John) the ball hit his hand and dropped right into Noah's lap. I've never seen Noah look so surprised (and pleased.)

Saturday morning at 6 am Noah, Murray and I piled into the Sonata (Yes, now that Emma has her own car she gave ours back) and headed for Idaho Falls to see Grandma Boren (Venola, that is.) On the way to fill up with gas Noah suffered a seizure. It lasted about 3 1/2 minutes and just as we had decided to head for the hospital it stopped. It did put an end to his trip to Idaho. Murray turned the car toward home and Noah promptly fell asleep which is par for the course after a seizure (He slept until 4 pm and then went back to bed at 9pm.) Noah however, couldn't get comfortable until he discovered that he could drape his legs over the front seat (I had moved to the back to hold his head.) When we arrived home I ran to grab the camera. It was a nice laugh after a scary start. By the way, Noah is now 5' 11" and weighs 160. It was quite an adventure getting him out of the car and into the house. I don't have pictures because I was helping Murray.
