OOPS!

I learned from Shauna that several posts were never posted over the last 8 weeks. So here they are.

Beautiful Bride

Beautiful Bride.jpg Originally uploaded by Grandma Boren . Emma, the beautiful bride, looks so demure on the staircase of the Provo Library. Who would guess that underneath she is wearing a black bra.

Spooky!

Image
Spooky! Originally uploaded by Grandma Boren . Noah went to a Halloween party at school tonight with the Bruin Buds (the club that he went to Homecoming with.) He loved getting dressed up and especially liked the SPOOKY makeup.

Haunted Noah!

Image
Haunted Noah! Originally uploaded by Grandma Boren . Noah is really excited about Halloween this year. He made this adorable haunted house with his fabulous tutor, Aubrey.

Guernsey Scarf

Image
Guernsey Scarf , originally uploaded by Grandma Boren . Here is a photo of my latest knitting project (if anyone is interested). It is a guernsey pattern scarf in Lion Brand Fisherman's Wool. It is almost finished. Only one star pattern to go.

Highly Decorated Scout

Image
Highly Decorated Scout , originally uploaded by Grandma Boren . Noah attended a BSA Court of Honor last night where he received two more merit badges-rowing and small boat sailing. He was awarded bronze, gold, and silver palms each representing 5 merit badges past the 21 required for the rank of Eagle Scout making Noah's total 36. His Scoutmaster and troop of boys are surely the best in the world. Many thanks to Bro. Darrin Mellor and the scouts of troop 1333.

Happy Couple

Image
Happy Couple , originally uploaded by Grandma Boren . Emma and Graydon had engagement photos taken yesterday. My dear friend Marj Eldard took this lovely photo at the Humanities Building on the BYU campus. They are soooooo happy.

Grapes Galore!

Image
Grapes Galore! , originally uploaded by Grandma Boren . My neighbors the Tangrens got tired of making grape juice so they gave us 1 1/2 bushels of concord grapes and the juicer and I went to work. We now have 22 quarts of the yummiest grape juice. Ummmmm!

Kid in Cables

Image
Kid in Cables , originally uploaded by Grandma Boren . I knitted my first cable project-a hat and scarf. Noah is modeling but they are a Christmas present for someone else. I won't say who because they just might read my blog. You never know.

Noah's First Date!

Image
Noah's First Date! Originally uploaded by Grandma Boren . Noah had his first date on Saturday. He went to the Homecoming Dance for Mountain View High School. Four students from the Life Skills Class went with Bruin Buds (a club that serves students with disabilities) first to dinner at our house (you know Murray loves to entertain although this one was actually my idea) and then to the dance at the Provo Towne Centre. Murray made his famous savory chicken schnitzel with noodles and I made a Fall salad with pears and walnuts. Murray liked the salad so well we are having it for dinner again tonight. Back to Noah--Noah's date is Corinne Bauer she is one of his peer tutors. The other couple in the photo is Ryan Painter (Noah's long time friend) and his date Brittney. We had a great time and the students did too! Kudos to Ms. Parker, Noah's teacher, for arranging this wonderful evening for the students. They all "had a blast"!

Noah Goes to School

Image
Noah Goes to School Originally uploaded by Grandma Boren . Noah started his junior year at Mountain View HS on the 23th of Aug. This year he has two bus drivers. One for "A" days when he goes to ATECH (job skills training where he works at the Bishops' Storehouse bagging potatoes-at least that's what I think he's telling me.) They also did tomatoes one day.) His bus for "B" days takes him right to the HS. Noah had to give up his painting class because he wasn't returning from ATECH in time. Instead he is taking a weight training class. I think he will enjoy it. We'll see. I have done some weight training exercises with Noah at home using dumbells and he seems to like it. Noah has been reading to me every morning while we wait for the bus. It is a lot of fun and he likes the routine. I have a hard time getting him to read to me in the afternoon. Maybe that's because he needs some "down time" after school. We ha

Another Aftermath

Image
Another Aftermath Originally uploaded by Grandma Boren . Poor Noah! We have been at Timpanogos Hospital this morning. I got a call from school saying that Noah had a seizure in PE class. They were running laps and Noah decided to do one more than usual but towards the end he started walking, then staggering, then moved to the grass and sat down hard. He rolled on to his side and began seizing. The PE teacher didn't realize Noah had a seizure disorder so she didn't know at first what was happening. Luckily, the paramedics work out at the same track at the same time so they were there to help. Then checked his vital signs and were not too pleased so they started an IV and oxygen. Meanwhile, I was on my way to pick Noah up and take him home when and got another call saying they decided to take him to the hospital. I called Murray to let him know what was going on and we all met at the emergency room. They checked Noah out, took a carbamazepine level (it was 12.3

Venola's Visit

Venola came to visit us for a few days. I wasn't intelligent enough to take a picture so you'll just have to imagine. She arrived on Monday night and she had fun reading with Noah. Tuesday we mostly just caught up chatting while I knitted. Murray and his mom went for a walk taking Noah over to the church for YM (however, YM had been moved to Wed. but we didn't know). Venola is doing amazingly well considering she just had her knee replacement in May. Of course, she would like it to get better faster, as we all would in her situation, but she has a good attitude about it and is making steady progress. She hardly used her walker at all, but it is good to have ready to make sure she doesn't fall. Wednesday, Murray came home from his University Conference Meetings to take his mom to lunch. I was proud of Murray for declining an assignment from the dean so he could spend this time with Venola. I think it meant a lot to her. She is lots of fun to have around. Hope

Jon & Mindy

Image
Jon & Mindy Originally uploaded by Grandma Boren . Jon & Mindy Scott are back in town for school at BYU. They spent the Summer in Fallon, NV with Mindy's parents where Jon had an internship with the government. He devloped a plan that they will implement for animal control. Apparently people have interesting pets there, including lions and tigers. Jon & Mindy came over for dinner last Sunday and we had a great time eating and enjoying each others company. I'm looking forward to seeing more of them this year. Last year was a blur and unfortunately we didn't see as much of them or Ryan and Kellie and now Ryan and Kellie have moved to Spokane and I've missed my opportunity with them. Hopefully I can be a better Aunt Susie to Jon and Mindy.

Time to Go

Image
Time to Go Originally uploaded by Grandma Boren . The time finally arrived for Elder Roger Astle to leave for the MTC. It's hard to tell who looks happier-the missionary or his family.

Image

Noah Turns 16

Image
Noah Turns 16 Originally uploaded by Grandma Boren . It is a good thing that Noah doesn't turn 16 everyday. I don't think we would live much longer. My sister, Sandy, and her children went with us to Lagoon Amusement Park to celebrate. They are visiting from Citrus Heights, CA to bring her son Roger to the MTC. Elder Astle enters the MTC on Wed. the 23rd to serve in the Pittsburgh, PA Mission. So we went to Lagoon at 11:30am-6:00pm. We went on a LOT of rides. Noah's favorite is the Spider, a roller coaster where the cars spin. It is pretty fun. Noah also got a present he loves-a portable DVD player. He watched Mary Poppins to and from the park. We stopped at Wal-mart on the way home and grabbed a cake. When we finally got home the Eldards came over and brought Noah some Mickey Mouse ice cream pops and Fat Boy strawberry cheesecake ice cream bars. The Eldards sure spoil us! We had a great time but like I said at the beginning it's a good thing we d

Swimming at Grandma Jackie's

Image
Swimming at Grandma Jackie's Originally uploaded by Grandma Boren . We had a wonderful trip to Sacramento. We arrived on July 30th in Emma's new Elantra. She wanted to show Grandpa her new car and she drove the whole way. Emma's friend, roommate, and traveling companion, Melissa Keil, came with us. This picture is of Emma and Melissa in the pool. That is where they lived. It is a good thing too. The first swim of the vacation was marred by an emergency. The girls took Noah swimming and I was planning to shower when Melissa came in and said Emma needed me. Noah had a seizure and was just swimming in a tight circle. Emma grabbed him and the three of us got his #160 of dead weight out of the pool. As he was coming out of the seizure he took Emma's hand and said, "thank you." She was very touched. Noah slept the rest of the day, which is par for the course. He is trying a new medication. Hopefully it will better control his seizures. Three

Owlz Fan

Image
Owlz Fan Originally uploaded by Grandma Boren . We went to an Owlz game with John and Marj for the 24th of July. They are so great to treat us to these games. Noah ended up with lots of souvenirs. American flags were given to all the spectators, and John bought Noah his own official Owlz baseball to go with the Owlz souvenir bat he gave Noah last year along with lots of treats and snacks. But the craziest souvenir of all was a total surprise. While the staff were throwing balls to the crowd one came our way. John jumped up to try to grab one for Noah (who was seated directly in front of John) the ball hit his hand and dropped right into Noah's lap. I've never seen Noah look so surprised (and pleased.)

Just CAN'T Get Comfortable

Image
Just CAN'T Get Comfortable Originally uploaded by Grandma Boren . Saturday morning at 6 am Noah, Murray and I piled into the Sonata (Yes, now that Emma has her own car she gave ours back) and headed for Idaho Falls to see Grandma Boren (Venola, that is.) On the way to fill up with gas Noah suffered a seizure. It lasted about 3 1/2 minutes and just as we had decided to head for the hospital it stopped. It did put an end to his trip to Idaho. Murray turned the car toward home and Noah promptly fell asleep which is par for the course after a seizure (He slept until 4 pm and then went back to bed at 9pm.) Noah however, couldn't get comfortable until he discovered that he could drape his legs over the front seat (I had moved to the back to hold his head.) When we arrived home I ran to grab the camera. It was a nice laugh after a scary start. By the way, Noah is now 5' 11" and weighs 160. It was quite an adventure getting him out of the car and into the h

Emma's New Wheels Originally uploaded by Grandma Boren . Emma pulled up Wednesday in her new car. She is thrilled to have automatic tranmission. Now when she get bucked off of Poky she'll still be able to drive.

VRRRRRROOOM

Image
VRRRRRROOOM Originally uploaded by Grandma Boren . Emma takes off in her new Hyundai Elantra. It's hard to tell but the car is actually metical navy with beige leather interior. The leather is not truly an indulgence. It keeps the horse smell from stinking up the seats.

Moroni & Michelle

Image
Moroni & Michelle Originally uploaded by Grandma Boren . Michelle and Moroni came to see us on their way out of town. We are so happy for them. They are so happy to have found each other. Everyone, including Dennis, is happy. Moroni took Michelle's parents out to dinner to officially ask permission to marry Michelle. Very nice work, Moroni! Moroni is a massage therapist and wants to start his own business in the future. His family lives in Marshing, ID where they have a honey business that produces specialty honey's like Boisenberry Honey, etc. Sounds pretty upscale and yummy. Moroni said that the Boy Scouts in the UT/ID area often sell Henry's Honey (named after Moroni's father who passed away last year). So if you see Henry's Honey give it a try. Congratualtions to the Scott and Besendorfer families.

Hungry Hannah?

Image
Hungry Hannah? Originally uploaded by Grandma Boren . Hannah's eyes were as big as saucers when the waiter brought her nachos supreme. Luckily, she didn't want dessert because the nachos looked just like this when she was finished. The "doggie bag" was a cake box.

Ryan Graduates

Image
Ryan Graduates Originally uploaded by Grandma Boren . Ryan Alexander Scott graduated with a B.S. degree in Neurobiology from BYU last Thursday. His family was here to celebrate. Murray, Noah, and I joined them for a celebratory dinner at Los Hermanos in Lindon. Hannah ordered nachos supreme and didn't even make a dent in them. Ryan and Kellie (along with Stu and Mel aka Amelia) are headed for Spokane, WA. Ryan begins a program in Hospital Admin at Univ. of Eastern Washington in Aug. Jon and Mindy are going to Fallon, NV to live with her parents for the summer. Jon has an internship with the D.A.s office there for the summer. Krista is expecting a new baby in Nov. to make the total 3. The most exciting news is that Michelle is getting married in the Boise Temple on Sept. 9th to Moroni Scott Besendorfer. They are so adorable together. She has found a wonderful partner.

Blessed Family

Image
Glenn Murray Boren Originally uploaded by Grandma Boren . Glenn Murray Boren was blessed Sunday by his father, Levi. Murray participated in the blessing along with their Bishop (also named Glen). Glenn's middle name was a surprise for Murray and I was wondering whether he would faint or cry at the announcement. Lucky for Glenn he did the latter.

Grandpa & Tut Originally uploaded by Grandma Boren . Murray was thrilled that Tuttie really "took" to him during our visit to Schenectady. They played lots of games and built Duplo towers (see Levi & Shauna's blog for photos). Tuttie even enjoyed sitting on Grandpa's lap.

Tut Down Under

Tut Down Under Originally uploaded by Grandma Boren . Tuttie had a great time crawling under the chair while Dad used the computer. Luckily she gave me time to grab the camera before she crawled back out.

Grandma's Boy!

Image
Grandma's Boy! Originally uploaded by Grandma Boren . Tonight Levi, Shauna, and Tuttie went for a short trip to Walmart. This is the first time I'm alone with Glenn, so what does a good grandma do? Why, take pictures, of course. Here's my favorite. His eyes are open. This is still a rare occurrence.

Glenn's Girls

"I Love Brother..." Originally uploaded by Grandma Boren . Tuttie and I just returned from a visit to Baby Glenn and Mom. Shauna is amazing. She is full of energy and looks more beautiful than ever.

"I Love Brother..." Originally uploaded by Grandma Boren . Tuttie loves her little brother. She enjoyed stroking his head and holding him when we visited the hospital this morning.

Welcome, Glenn!

Image
Welcome, Glenn! Originally uploaded by Grandma Boren . Glenn arrived last night (Tuesday, March 7, 2006) right on schedule. He did not want to be out done by his big sister, Samantha, who also arrived on her due date. Glenn showed up at 9:38 pm EST at the St. Clare's Hospital in Schenectady, NY. He did out do her sister in size. Glenn weighed 8# 3 oz. and is 21" long. Mother and baby are both doing well as Glenn is already an accomplished nursing baby.

"We Trim Our Nails..."

Image
"We Trim Our Nails..." Originally uploaded by Grandma Boren . Tuttie received a fingernail trim getting ready for Sunday. You can see how thrilled she is. Levi said it was the easiest time he's had trimming nails in a long time. He attributed it to my being there. I also got credit for a quite Tut while driving in the car. As soon as the novelty of my being around wears off I'm sure the volume will go back up. Tuttie is quite a singer. She is only nineteen months but she can match pitches so well that when she starts to sing you know exactly what song it is even with her jargon for lyrics. Way to go, Tut! This other photo is going to Church. I wanted you to see the front of their extremely cute tri-plex. Three cheers for Grandpa Knecht for the apartment. It is really great.

Murray Turns 56

Image
Murray Turns 56 Originally uploaded by Grandma Boren . Murray turned 56 today and celebrated with a carrot cake with not quite 56 carrots on it but almost. He received pretty functional presents such as new jeans, a fishing license, new Skip-Bo cards (the old ones are so used that they stick together, which makes it too easy to cheat.) One of his presents was a big surprise. I got him a subscription to the "The New Yorker" and the first issue arrived in the mail today. He was very surprised and pleased. We had quite a discussion earlier in the week about what he wanted for his birthday dinner since steak is out (he had an adventure getting his gout medicine from Medco this past two weeks, but that is another story.) He thought buffalo wings were a good idea but I thought that lacked imagination since that was what Emma requested for her birthday dinner just 4 weeks ago. Then there was a very Beatrice and Benedict conversation regarding tamales that went on fo

Murray's Sweet Setup

Image
Murray's Sweet Setup Originally uploaded by Grandma Boren . Murray recently traded in his old BYU computer set up for a new system. Levi picked the specs. Pretty sweet, huh? The reason his desk looks so clean is because he's not using it at the moment. Since he's on leave this semester all the creative clutter goes on at home.

Santa Baby

Image
Santa Baby Originally uploaded by Grandma Boren . We had a great Christmas! Even Murray had enough Christmas spirit to let me take his picture! Thanks to all our family and friends for helping to make or holidays "merry and bright". Murray even got something he has "always wanted" a pair of Australian sheepskin slippers. Maybe that's why he's smiling!

The Happy Scout

The Happy Scout Originally uploaded by Grandma Boren . Thought you might like to see a recent photo of Noah. He received his Eagle Scout rank advancement on Nov 13th, 2005. He loves scouting and has grown so much from the experience. Hats off to Noah, Darrin Mellor, his scoutmaster, and all the scouts and leaders of Troop 1333

Emma Graduates

Image
Emma Graduates Originally uploaded by Grandma Boren . On December 22nd, 2005 Emma graduated from the Utah College of Massage Therapy. We are very proud of her. (By the way, she gives a mean massage-especially cranial.) You may notice that she has a big scar on the bridge of her nose. She and several other classmates had a graduation party the night BEFORE graduation. They were racing around in a swimming pool when Emma connected with the edge. Fortunately, the wound is superficial and she won't have the scar for life. She may not feel that this is fortunate since she loves her "battle scars."
